Dubai named top global destination for ‘executive nomads’
Emirate earns title for second year running in Savills Executive Nomad Index, which surveys the strengths and weaknesses of 25 top destinations worldwide
Dubai has secured top spot in the 2024 Savills Executive Nomad Index, which ranks the world’s top destinations for high-powered professionals seeking lucrative business opportunities and an enhanced quality of life.
The result marks the second year in a row Dubai has been named the world’s top destination in the report, with Savills praising the city’s excellent infrastructure, strong digital and physical connectivity, and business-friendly environment.
This year’s index analysed the strengths and weaknesses of 25 global destinations to assess their appeal to executive nomads, which Savills defines as “older professionals”, who are often accompanied by their families.
According to Savills, their preferences revolve around high-quality infrastructure, excellent healthcare, top-tier education facilities, and secure living environments. They seek destinations that provide both professional opportunities and a superior lifestyle. They are also more likely to rent high-end properties that are located close to top-quality amenities like international schools, hospitals, and recreational facilities.
The cities were ranked based on factors such as internet speed, air connectivity, climate stability, residential rental prices, and overall quality of life. Dubai topped the list ahead of Abu Dhabi, with rival destinations Málaga, Miami, and Lisbon rounding out the top five.
The report highlighted that cities with beachside access continued to outperform the competition in this year’s top 10, with Barcelona (6th) and Palma (7th) also included in the list.
Dubai offers unrivalled connectivity and world-class infrastructure
According to Savills, Dubai eclipsed its rivals thanks to its unparalleled connectivity and world-class infrastructure. The city’s status as a global air travel hub offers executive nomads easy access to markets across the world. With the world’s busiest airport for international passengers, Dubai stands out for its ease of travel – an important factor for high-powered professionals who are constantly on the move.
In addition to physical connectivity, Dubai excels in digital infrastructure, boasting some of the fastest internet speeds globally. This is a crucial feature for executive nomads, who rely heavily on uninterrupted digital communication to conduct business remotely. The city also offers excellent facilities for families.
“Dubai and Abu Dhabi are incredibly appealing to executive nomads, because they offer everything you need to thrive both personally and professionally, from modern infrastructure to high quality of life,” commented Andrew Cummings, head of Residential Agency Middle East at Savills.
“We’ve also seen a real focus on creating a lively business environment [in Dubai], where there are plenty of opportunities to grow, build networks and make lifelong connections,” he added.
Easy access to visas and business opportunities boosts Dubai’s appeal
Another critical factor behind Dubai’s success is its innovative visa schemes. The UAE offers easy access to a range of long-term residency options, including digital nomad visas, which make it easier for professionals to live and work in the country without being tied to a specific employer. This forward-thinking approach has made Dubai an attractive destination for global talent seeking work flexibility and security.
Dubai's status as a global business hub is also significant draw for executive nomads. The emirate’s dynamic business environment is enhanced by tax incentives, extensive free zones, and a robust regulatory framework that encourages entrepreneurship and innovation. The city's reputation as a safe and stable place to live further boosts its appeal.
Dubai is recognised as the region’s – and one of the world’s – leading destinations for meetings, incentives, conferences and events (MICE), with numerous business events, expos, and conferences taking place throughout the year. The opportunities to build lasting professional connections and tap into global markets are unparalleled in Dubai, Savills notes in the report.
Dubai is also fast-earning a reputation as one of the world’s most liveable cities, making it a top choice for those seeking a balanced work-life environment.
