A record 1.7 million people turned out to watch the New Year’s Eve celebrations at Downtown Dubai – soaring past the estimated 1 million visitors expected. The extravaganza centred around the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, also reached more than 2 billion people via live video stream on 1000 global television channels and You Tube. The record turnout even beat New York’s reported 1 million visitors to Time’s Square, making Dubai one of the world’s most popular New Year’s celebrations.
